Yoga for Ancestral Connection – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

Growing up Jewish, I had always heard my Grandparents talk about Jerusalem and the religious importance of the Western Wall, which is the last standing wall of the second temple dating back to 19 BC.  I remember looking at the pictures they took of all the people touching the Wailing Wall from their visit to this holy land and how we recited “Next Year in Jerusalem” at the close of every Passover Sedar.

This past week we had the opportunity to walk the Walled City, where the pinnacle of holiest sites for multiple religions are housed.  It was fascinating to stand on the same limestone where some of the most familiar stories from the bible took place.

We walked all four quadrants of the city and observed how each religious sector practiced their beliefs.  Visitors to the Western Wall were divided into two sections, one for males and one for females.  Kayla, Scott and I wrote a little note of prayers and well-wishes to place in the crack of the wall.  As Kayla and I approached the large structure, we saw thousands of tiny papers from visitors past.

I placed my hand on the wall and closed my eyes.  My mind immediately thought of my Grandparents and how they had touched the very same wall years before. Tears welled up in my eyes as I remembered all my ancestors that had come before me and passed down the lessons from generation to generation  that made me who I am today.

There are so many teachers in our lives, whether they are part of your family, friend circle, school, work or a stranger.  With every interaction we have, we pass on a lesson that in some form has connected us with the past and will continue to  affect future generations.

The yoga we do on our mat today, came from an intricate web of ancient teacher-student-teacher instructions that blossomed and developed to our present practice.  It is important to honor all wisdom we receive, not only directly, but from this infinite chain of knowledge.

This week’s 23-minute FREE Hatha Flow Class, Yoga for Anctral Connection, is about honoring all the teachers that came before us. Through asana, breathwork and meditation you will be able to connect with all your ancestral teachers who have gifted the lessons that make you who you are today.

Yoga with Meditation Mutha is for everyBODY. Please join me in this opportunity to honor all our teachers from generations past. Enjoy!
