I have always been drawn to the energy of the ocean. Listening to the waves flowing back and forth has such a calming effect on my nervous system.
That is why I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to teach yoga on the beach this past week at Club Med Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The crystal blue water lapping against the white sand brought a deep peace to my soul.
Studies have found that the sound of the ocean waves and breathing in the salty air relaxes the body and the mind. In addition, sitting by the sea releases serotonin, otherwise known as the happy hormones. No wonder why so many people take beach vacations in their quest for serenity.
