Life Lessons from a Puppy – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

Having a new puppy has sure made things exciting in our home.  I absolutely love his high energy and the way he speeds around the house when he gets excited.  Or how he sneaks into our laundry basket when he thinks no one is looking to pull out a dirty sock and then prances around to show us his prize.

But, one of my favorite things Jimmy Kibble does that reminds me he is only 9-months old is that everything is new and amazing to him.  Every morning when I take him for a walk he stops and stares at the birds and squirrels scurrying in the trees.  It’s not that he chases them.  He actually sits down and observes them.  

A boy playing basketball in the driveway is cause for a long gaze of pure wonder.  And when we stroll by the mailman, Jimmy plops his little tail on the ground and stops to examine every action taken of the package sorter.  And he would stay there all day if I let him.  

Jimmy’s 15-minute walks that actually take 40-minutes with all the curious pauses, remind me to slow down and absorb what is going on in the moment.  When we decelerate it allows our overactive mind to focus on the here and now. And being in the present moment is the ONLY time the mind can rest.
