I don’t care if it’s Jon Bon Jovi or some other 80’s fantasy figure that you dream of, being with anyone non-stop, 24/7 for almost a year is bound to drive you a little crazy. Kayla, Scott and I have lived in some pretty close quarters over the past 10-months. It’s not uncommon to see us crammed into a one room place, shoulder-to-shoulder on the bed while Kayla does her school work and Scott and I clap away on our computers.
I remember being in a hotel room one time and we all got into an argument. Kayla got so mad at us and declared “I’m out of here!” She proceeded to get up and was ready to storm out, when she realized there was no place to go. So, instead she did a lap around the room and ended up plopping down right where she started. I felt so bad for her, because there was no place to escape. All at once we realized the silliness of the situation and began to laugh hysterically.
Travelling so intimately has made me realize the importance of alone time. It is imperative to provide yourself with the opportunity to reflect, decompress and release emotions that build up throughout the day.
Emotions are just Energy in Motion. They are meant to be recognized and then released and passed through the body. The danger is when we don’t go through the process of letting go. When we harbor negative energy in the body it transforms into ailment. That is why 99% of all disease is related to pent up stress.
That is why I get up early every morning before my travel buddies are awake and spend some time sitting with myself. I meditate on gratitude and visualize abundance, love, health and safety. Often times I listen to chants to release the emotions of yesterday and focus on the limitless possibility of today.
What do you do to recognize and release emotions? How do you let go of daily stress?
This week’s 19-minute FREE Yin Yoga Class, Yin Yoga for Releasing Emotion, is all about tuning into the body and mind, bringing awareness to pent up tension or stress and then releasing those stored emotions. Through hip openers and other asana, breath work and meditation, you will be empowered to let go of past emotions that no longer serve you, while increasing flexibility.
