Honoring the Sun – Summer Solstice

As we move into a new season, we celebrate the Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year. This is a time to reflect inward and find the nourishment we need to grow and evolve.

It is also a chance to bring awareness to the importance of the sun in our lives. The sun rises and sets daily bringing light into our world and provides the necessary energy for our food source to grow. It also gives us vitamin D to enhance our life force and keep us healthy. It warms our planet to a temperature where life can exist and it enhances our mood just by its warming effects.

We often take this imperative gift for granted. A powerful way to honor the sun is by observing the sunrise and sunset daily and giving thanks for new beginnings and peaceful endings.

In ancient wisdom Indian traditions, our solar star is revered by doing a movement sequence first thing in the morning called Sun Salutations. Sun Salutations are yoga postures that flow in a repeated sequence from one to the other. The intention is to provide gratitude to each new day the sun provides and bring that energy into our hearts.

Whether you are first time yogi or have been practicing for years, I would love for you to join me for this weeks Hatha Flow practice, Yoga Sun Salutations for Beginners, where I break down each posture so you can enjoy this flow with confidence. Happy Summer Solstice! Enjoy!
