Rising with the Sun – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

Last weekend I was in NYC celebrating my cousin’s wedding. It was so wonderful spending time with family to honor this happy occasion and it warmed my heart to witness the love between him and his new wife.

Our hotel room had a beautiful view of the Hudson River, which transformed into very different backdrops depending on the time of the day. I observed the sunset and how it reflected on the water and created a warm hue across all of the sky scrapers. Arriving back to the room late in the evening, all of the high rises were lit up and it looked like diamonds sparkling in the water. My preferred view was when I awoke at sunrise to see a peach sky mirrored on the river providing a sense of calm and tranquility in the city that never sleeps.

Early morning is my favorite time of day because I experience a sense of peace in the stillness of my home. I use this time to sit and reflect on what is going on inside me in that very moment.

As the sun rises higher in the sky, I can feel my energy begin to grow because I have calibrated my body to the natural cycle of the day. I then incorporate a little movement in the morning to encourage my system to activate.

Rising with the sun is an excellent way to regulate your melatonin and cultivate the best opportunity for a good night sleep in the evening. Add just a few minutes of exercise as the sun rises and you have yourself a great recipe for a deep, restful sleep.
