Overcoming the Holiday Yoga Blues – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

holiday yoga

I have been trying holiday yoga themes to do a lot of the fun Austin-y things to celebrate the yoga holidays like touring some of the iconic Christmas decorations and hitting one of the many Festivus decked-out bars for a cocktail.

Last night I went with my mom and my friend Summer to see a Christmas show at a local theatre called Alchemy. They were performing an eclectic cabaret called Frost Bite focused on all the calamities of the Christmas season. Through comedy, they spotlighted the challenges of the holidays like a drunk, obnoxious relatives, “friendly” competition among siblings, and splitting time with divorced parents.

They also addressed some serious topics such as food insecurity, mourning a loved one and mental health. Although “Tis’ the Season to be Jolly”, there are many reasons why people get depressed around the holidays.

If you have been feeling down in December, you are not alone. Maybe this is the 1st or 20th Christmas after your loved one’s passing. Or possibly you do not have enough food to feed your family on a average day, let alone a festive meal. Perhaps you are forced to gather with family members that could not care less to see you except for this holiday yoga.

No matter your reason for experiencing the holiday blues, taking some time for a little self-care will ground you and provide the energy to make it through this challenging time.
