Experiencing the teeter totter of heightened energy around the election makes it very clear that there needs to be a balance between the right and left sides in order to maintain stability. Our body and mind is no different. Our one-sided belief systems tip the scale out of balance and cause disarray of our thoughts, emotions and physical well-being.
The same thing happens as we age. Our dominant side takes over and weakens our non-dominant side’s ability to function properly. We see a disconnect happen in our messaging system and our signals get messed up. Ever miss a step going down the stairs because you forgot your right from your left?
Luckily, there is an easy solution to bring equilibrium back into our world. All we have to do is pay equal attention to both sides of the body. When we focus on the right side of the body, it stimulates the left analytical brain. And when we focus on the left side of the body, it stimulates the right side of the brain. Just like siblings craving their parent’s attentiveness, both sides of our being require equivalent consideration to thrive in a healthy state.
This week’s 21-minute FREE Chair Yoga Class, Chair Yoga for Right-Left Brain Stimulation, is all about bringing balance to the right and left hemisphere of the body and mind. Through seated movements that challenge right-left coordination and breath work such as Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana) that turns on your analytical and creative brain we will develop equilibrium for our entire being.
