Regulating Your Nervous System – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

Any intense moment can rattle your nervous system. So, when your mind is constantly being bombarded by the atrocities that are currently happening overseas, it is no wonder that you might feel like you are shaken to the core.

Although you may not be directly involved in the extreme conditions of war, your mind can not distinguish between your current reality and the reality of others as you watch the horrendous acts of violence on TV or hear about it in the news. Your body responds to this trigger by turning on your sympathetic nervous system and sends you deep into “fight or flight” mode.

This is a very normal temporary response that is meant to keep you safe under dangerous circumstances. You are not built to reside in this alert state for long periods of time. Therefore, it is important to take note of how you are feeling and tune into your stress level, so you take action on calming your nervous system.

Getting outside and connecting with nature is one way to return to an even state-of-being. The breath is another powerful tool that can be used for self-regulation and bring you back to a balanced state.

Come join me for this week’s floor class, Yoga to Regulate the Nervous System and take the steps of self-care to relax the body and mind. Enjoy!
