Kicking Your Butt – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

I love to run for several reasons. The first is the runner’s high I get which activates all the happy hormones in my body. The second is the peace and joy I feel when I sprint on the trails through the woods with my puppy, Jimmy Kibble, chasing after me excited to be off leash. The third is the mental clarity I feel with the surge of oxygen and fresh blood pumping to my brain. I cultivate all my best creative ideas running solo in nature.

Lately I have been logging about 20 miles per week. Not bad for a 49-year-old girl and her dog. Although I have been tracking a decent amount of miles, I recently noticed my muscles were looking a little flabby, specifically my butt. Although my cardiovascular fitness is excellent, my muscle tone is another story.

As we age, we are less likely to activate the muscles in our glutes. When we were little we leaped, jumped and squatted on a daily basis during play turning on our large muscles in the rear. Nowadays, we may have a desk job where we sit for extended periods of time, or, we may even run or walk for miles, but not engage our booty muscles.

The glute muscles are one of the most important areas of the body to maintain strength, not just to look good in a bathing suit, but to enhance overall health and well-being. We use our glutes in every day activities like standing up from a chair, bending over to pick up something from the floor and climbing stairs. These large muscles stabilize us during many activities throughout the day and prevent us from having accidents like falling.

Therefore, I thought I would share a special yoga class that will help you maintain a healthy body throughout your whole life and literally kick your butt! Have fun!

    YOGA FOR TONING THE GLUTES

This week’s 19 minute Hatha Yoga Class, Yoga for Toning the Glutes, is all about activating our booty muscles to engage an area of the body that is often neglected when we age. Through exercises like squats and low bridge squeezes, we will turn on the muscles in our rear that help us stabilize our body to prevent injury. Yoga with Meditation Mutha is for everyBODY. Please join me in this opportunity to maintain health and well-being your entire life. Enjoy!
