My family and I ventured off to explore Cambodia for a week and I fell in love with the people, food and culture of this beautiful country. We spent our entire time in Siem Reap, a city located north central in the middle of the jungle.
King Suryavarman II was attracted to this lush, tropical environment back in the early 12th century. He moved his entire entourage across the country to build a Hindu-based capital complex far larger and more advanced than London at the time. The intricately designed temples were a marvel that took 300,000 people, 6,000 elephants and over 30 years to complete.
The Khmer Kings abandoned the city in the 15th century to move to the coast. And it wasn’t until 1860 that a French scientist was doing research in the jungle and stumbled upon “The Lost City of Angkor”.
While in the area, we wanted to make the most of our time, so we hired a private guide to take us on a tour of the temple ruins. We learned so much about the history of these ancient people and how this advanced city operated. The information was endlessly interesting.
There were both Hindu and Buddhist temples all over the complex. And one fact that stuck with me was how you can tell the difference between the two. Buddhist temples are always one floor and Hindu temples have three floors representing hell, purgatory and heaven. I noticed there was a long line to climb up the steps to heaven and no lines leading south. So, we headed down to hell where we felt a little more at home 😉
Back in the day, the third level was only for kings and monks, who made their journey up the steep flight of stairs every day to pray and meditate. While there, they would surrender their earthly self, the ego, to a higher being in order to pass easily onto heaven.
The ego is a roadblock to our full potential. It is present when you feel self-conscious, angry, jealous, inflated, anxious, depressed etc. Letting go of the attachment to our own self-perception makes room for limitless potential and abundance.
This week’s 25-minute FREE Hatha Yoga Class, YOGA FOR RELEASING THE EGO, is all about letting go of the self to move into your fullest capacity. Working with Asana, Pranayama and Meditation, this class offers poses of surrender as well as an opportunity to play with balance without your ego getting in the way. This class will enhance flexibility and increase balance of the body and mind.
Yoga with Meditation Mutha is for everyBODY. Please join me in this opportunity to surrender into your highest self. Enjoy!
