Since we arrived back from our year-long trip, Austin has hardly seen a drop of rain. I have been dreaming of the cool, damp weather of Budapest in the above picture. Every week the meteorologists promise a chance of precipitation, but no rain appears. My poor garden is perpetually wilted, the trees are dropping their leaves like it’s fall and my grass makes a crispy, crunching sound when I walk on it.
But, then this week on my morning run, I noticed the volume of my curls continuing to grow, as my afro-meter indicated some high humidity in the air. The moisture was so heavy you could cut it with a knife. I could barely finish my jog, as I arrived home drenched in sweat.
I felt the density of the atmosphere building as the day moved on. And just when I thought I could not take one more minute of this oppressive force, the skies opened up and it began to rain! Of course I ran outside and let the drops of water wash over me, a total purification for my spirit.
Mother Nature plays a wonderful role model for us. Just like her, the pressure of daily stresses builds up inside. We need a healthy way to release the tension and let go of our burdens to cleanse ourselves and start fresh.
This week’s 17-minute FREE Hatha Yoga Class, Yoga for Releasing Pressure, is all about using healthy tools like breath and movement to release build up of stress, anxiety and tension within the body and mind.
