This past weekend I volunteered at Austin City Limits Festival for my favorite local non-profit, Austin Parks Foundation. They support all of the City parks to make certain there are beautiful green spaces for Austinites to enjoy.
I was assigned to “Austin Kiddie Limits”, which was an incredible area for kids to experience the joy of music through interactive booths such as exploring with drums in a drum circle, being a star while busting out raps on a mic and listening to incredibly talented kids perform on stage.
I had the opportunity to make buttons for the kids from the art they designed. It was magical to see the excitement in their eyes when I handed over their art work in button form. It was like they just received the best gift in the world.
After my four hour shift, I headed out to the festival to listen to some music. I spent all day hopping around from one amazing band to another. People are so incredibly talented and I was excited to fall in love with some new-to-me bands such as Jackson Dean, Southern Avenue, Ripe, Wet Leg and Purple Disco Machine and well as witness true performers like Lil’ Nas X, Culture Club and Sophie Tucker.
My ultimate goal was to see Pink perform, as the festival was a rare opportunity to see her show in Austin. Her performance blew me away and after she finished her last song flying over the crowd, I knew the long day was worth it.
After standing on my feet for a full afternoon of the festival on Friday, a fourteen hour day on Saturday and a 6 hour day on Sunday, my feet were exhausted. I made it home Sunday evening, laid down on the floor and kicked my legs up against the wall to let all the blood drain from my tender tootsies.
I could sense a foot injury approaching if I did not do some self-care. So, I took a racket ball out and rolled my feet to release any tensions in my soles.
If you are a runner, walker, wear high heels or just stand on your feet for long periods of time, it is imperative to take proactive measures to prevent injury to one of the most important parts of your lower body.
Your feet are your connection to the earth. When they are healthy, the rest of your body including your spine can be in alignment. Taking care of your feet is the first step to your overall well-being. A little attention goes a long way.
Want to enliven your whole body? Please join me for this week’s class, Yoga for Opening Feet and Calves, and let your connection with the earth lead your way to a healthy body!

Our feet are our connection with the earth and affect the entire chain in our body. If our feet are in good condition, our spine can function properly. In this class we will use a ball, foam roller and/or blanket to break up the fascia in the lower extremities to prevent injury and enhance overall well-being.
