    Choosing a New Path – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

    Every morning, Monday through Friday, for six years I would drop Kayla off at school and then head to a crushed granite trail to do a three mile run.  I loved going over to the local path because I would see the same familiar faces each day doing their same routine.  We would wave at each other and it felt comforting to be a part of this accustomed community of daily exercisers.

    Some days, I would get to the end of my regimen and realize that I didn’t remember even running.  I was so used to the sites and sounds of the trail that I would put myself on autopilot and snap into the present moment just before my 30-minutes was up.  This understanding made me aware of all the wonderful things I had been missing on my daily journey, like the birds singing or a butterfly flitting by.

    Now almost 9-months into our family trip around the world, I have had the incredible opportunity to run in cities all over the planet on every type of trail imaginable.  Each new path has turned on my senses and sparked my curiosity about all the unexplored sites, sounds and scents I have experienced along the way.  And each unique journey has captured my attention and heightened my awareness in the present moment.

    Just like a familiar footpath, the majority of our daily lives tend to reside in a state of comfort in knowing the way.  We take the same route to work, participate in the same yoga classes each week and fall under the same morning routine every day of our lives.

    Although habitual tasks are very grounding, they can leave us in a stagnant condition. When we choose a new way of doing things or a different path, we experience the world through Kindergarten, child-like wonder.  Our mind is challenged in this novel environment and left to be curious and inquisitive.  This transforms into a limitless expression of creativity.

    This week’s 22-minute, FREE Hatha Yoga Class will get you thinking about the mundane paths you choose based on comfort and ease. It will get you off autopilot and into experiencing your life more fully. This class will develop new neural pathways in your brain, increase flexibility and assist you in enhancing creativity.
