A New Way – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

If you know me, you fully comprehend that I am an old-school, low-tech girl. I am not interested in running out to be the first to get the latest technology. Nor, do I spend my time on playing with all the fancy features of a product. I am a simple gal with simple needs and perfectly fine with holding onto my gadgets to the point of disfunction.

Point proven, both my husband Scott and I have had our iPhone 6’s for almost seven years! I think that is a pretty long lifespan in the gadget world. The funny thing is I would have never considered an alternative, except my cell phone is so old she started begging me for mercy to put her out of her misery. Literally, everything stopped working and she refused to do a thing.

So, Scott and I were forced to contemplate our next cell phone journey. We thought about buying a used iPhone 8, which would have still been a huge upgrade for us. However, since we shoot a lot of videos, we decided to bite the bullet and splurge for the top-of-the-line iPhone 12 Pro, which included the mega camera.

The boxes arrived a few days later and just sat on the counter. We were scared to open them. We knew six levels of upgrades lay beneath the surface and we were overwhelmed by the thought. Every day we would say, “Let’s activate our phones tonight.” However, when the time came, we would make excuses of why we couldn’t work on them. I think we knew we were over our heads in technology.

Five days passed and we finally mustered up the courage to peek inside the box. It was a scary world and we had no idea where to begin. We called for backup and spent the next five hours on the phone with Sprint and Apple transferring all our info onto our new precious purchases.

Once the transition pains subsided, I sat down for a few minutes to play with my novel toy. I figured out how to login with Face ID and got used to not having a Home button. Other than that, things seemed pretty familiar and intuitive. All that fuss and fear over noth’in! I am a high tech girl and temporarily up-to-date with my techno tool, at least for this year!

We can all attest to getting stuck in old ways of doing things. Deep-rooted patterns are comfortable and one less thing to think about. Nonetheless, our bodies and minds are meant for growth. If we do not stimulate them in a unique way, they will get fixed on autopilot with no opportunity for expansion.

One easy way to create new patterns to ignite personal growth is to move your body in different ways. If you walk the same path every day, try taking a new trail. If your go-to cardio is running, why not hop on a bike? If your gym routine is a little too predictable, check out this week’s yoga video where we take an age-old exercise and add a little twist of pizzazz!

    YOGA FOR CORE STRENGTH

This week’s 18-minute Hatha Yoga Class, Yoga for Core Strength, is all about engaging the core without focusing on old-school sit ups to do so. Using a variety of postures such as plank, forearm plank and side plank, we will effectively activate important stabilizer muscles, while avoiding low back and neck pain that often comes with traditional crunches.

Yoga with Meditation Mutha is for everyBODY. Please join me in this opportunity to find unique ways to strengthen all areas of your abdomen. Enjoy!
