This is Africa – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

We were told before holding our Yoga and Safari Retreat in Tanzania that the locals have a saying, “This is Africa!” The intention behind this phrase is that things are going to happen that are totally out of your control and you just have to roll with it.

I was so happy to be given that phrase before our departure by my amazing partner, Gabriele Brown with Urth Expedition, who has been masterfully coordinating safari adventures for the past 12 years and fully understand the unpredictability of the environment.

I prepped my retreat attendees with an email relaying the message that the adventure will be most powerful if you arrive to the experience with no expectations and let the universe provide the journey. I highlighted the importance to be flexible, as the trip will be totally unscripted and can change in a moments noticed based on current conditions.

Well, we had the opportunity to truly live the “This is Africa!” motto throughout our entire journey. From the electricity going out at our accommodations in the middle of the Serengeti to being circled by hyenas at dark while trying to get one of our Jeeps out of the mud after a seven hour safari trek through the bush, our crew released expectations and just went with it. What we found was when we were flexible, the universe delivered an experience beyond our wildest dreams.

This practice can be applied to every aspect of our lives. When we let go of control and let the universe guide our way, we can surrender to receiving all of the abundance beyond our imagination.
