The summer sun is still blazing strong in Texas. Unusually high temperatures of 104 degrees for the past three months have made it almost impossible to venture outside during the day.
It seems like everyone has taken on nocturnal behaviors. People hide inside mid-day and start to appear outside their homes as the sun goes down. Outdoor activity is highest between 9pm-11pm. Dog walkers, runners and walkers come out of their daily hibernation to enjoy a few moments in the fresh air.
This new routine has posed a problem in getting the required sunlight we need to absorb on a daily basis to stay healthy. Allowing the sun’s rays to shine on our skin is the best way to take in Vitamin D. This nutrient plays a major role in boosting our immune system, giving us energy and protecting us from ailment.
That is one of the reasons why elderly people who stay indoors most of the day experience reduction in energy and overall health.
Therefore, it is important to get out in the sunshine on a daily basis year-round. If it is extremely hot where you live, then the safest time is to let the sun shine its rays on your skin first thing in the early morning for at least 15-30 minutes.
If you are in an area that experiences short days in the winter making it challenging to get out in the sun during the work week, then it may be a good idea to take a Vitamin D supplement. It is important to choose Vitamin D3 + K which is a natural form of the vitamin. K must be present for vitamin D to be absorbed into the body.
In addition to getting outdoors daily, I use an excellent D3 + K 5,000 mg supplement that is affordable and has all of the high quality ingredients I need to maintain my energy and keep me healthy.
