Austinites are blessed to have 300 days of sunshine per year. That being said, by the time October rolls around, many of us start to crave a good rain.
I can always tell when the rain is coming because I get an overwhelming sense of exhaustion sweep over my body. Within twelve hours of a cold front passing through I start to slow down and my main focus is getting under the covers to take a nice nap.
My puppy, Jimmy Kibble, and I have the same reaction to the change in weather and his lazy behavior just affirms the approaching storm even more. In fact, we had a shower come in over night and Jimmy did not get out of bed until 3 pm!
We can learn a lesson from Jimmy. Sometimes self-care looks like doing less. Maybe our body is telling us to stay in bed and sleep in or read a book. Maybe it is saying do some gentle exercising instead of our rigorous routine.
Listening to what our body needs is the greatest form of self nourishment. This week’s yoga practice will help you say yes to less!
This week’s 14 minute floor yoga class, Yoga for a Rainy Day, is all about shutting off our need “To Do”. Through gentle postures that ease into our practice, we give ourselves permission to relax and enjoy the laziness that comes with a rainy day. Yoga with Meditation Mutha is for everyBODY. Please join me in this opportunity to do less and give back to yourself. Enjoy!
