Anyone heard of this little thing called the Corona Virus? Well, in Austin this tiny bugger has had a major impact on the city, even though we have not had a single case reported. South by Southwest, our largest music festival and revenue generator, was cancelled for fear that hundreds of thousands of people from around the world, would come to our healthy city and contaminate everyone.
That was a pretty hefty decision for the Mayor to make, considering Austin would lose close to $500 million in revenue. But, from a local’s perspective, I am glad that they aired on the side of safety and took this extra precaution to reduce exposure.
That being said, I don’t quite understand why I went to the super market and all the toilet paper was missing off the shelves. Did everyone suddenly have a case of the runs? Or did fear overtake the minds of the residents in our intelligent metropolis?
You know that panic has taken over when you reside in a sense of lack. Living under the anxiety that there is not enough for everyone, puts you into an immediate state-of-poverty. Thinking I have to stock up on 20-cans of tuna fish, 40-gallons of water, and don’t forget the 10-bags of potato chips (just in case I need a snack, while quarantined), is exactly what creates panic in epidemic proportions
What if we did exactly the opposite of what our fear-based gut tells us. What if we spent more time feeling grounded, safe and secure in this unknown situation. Or for any unfamiliar circumstance for that matter. Would we feel any different? Would the eminent sense of doom dissipate before our eyes? I have a thought. Let’s find out…
This week’s 30-minute FREE Hatha Flow Class, Yoga for Surrendering Fear, is all about feeling very grounded and supported, so we can move through any challenges that come our way. Through asana, breath work, stability postures like warrior II, Triangle and Chair Pose we will create a feeling of security in our body and mind to flow freely through our daily adventures. Stick around for a “Mountain Meditation” at the end for some extra grounding.
