    Balancing Your World – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

    Twelve years ago I had just finished up my yoga teacher training. I was feeling a little out of balance from all of the efforts put towards this class while working full time and raising a three year old. I desired to attend a yoga retreat to provide a little self-care and nourishment. I wanted to travel outside of the U.S. and thought Costa Rica would be a safe place to travel solo.

    I did some research and found this incredible boutique yoga resort that had just opened up that year. My husband suggested I send them a note to see if I could teach a few classes down there in exchange for a reduced rate. To my surprise, I received an email back inviting me to teach the entire week-long retreat!

    Of course I said “Yes!!!” and headed down to Anamaya Resort to hold my first yoga retreat. I was a little nervous being a newbie and did not know what to expect. But, as soon as I arrived to this incredible space, I felt a wave of peace wash over me. I knew I had connected with this magical place for a reason.

    Holding class on the yoga deck overlooking a 270 degree view of the Pacific Ocean was a surreal experience. The farm-to-table high vibe, delicious food donated its own energy to the event. Activities like surfing, waterfall hiking, ziplining, massage and horseback riding added to the adventure. And, the deep connection and celebration I enjoyed with the group was beyond my wildest dreams.

    At the end of the week, I sat on the yoga deck and visualized myself returning to this blissful space to teach another retreat the following year. Flash forward more than a decade and I feel so grateful that we are getting ready to embark on our 12th annual Yoga Retreat to the quaint town of Montezuma, Costa Rica at the beautiful Anamaya Resort.
