Move It or Lose It – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

This past weekend I had the absolute honor of gathering with an incredible group of women at the “Thriving through Every Stage of a Woman’s Life Retreat”. I am so grateful for all of the beautiful ladies who arrived with open hearts to the experience.

Throughout the weekend we learned tools to support our physical, mental and spiritual health during our journey as a woman. As we danced under the stars by the fire, took a nature walk and participated in daily yoga, the importance of incorporating movement into our day was highlighted as a key factor to youthful aging.

The saying “move it or lose it” is imperative through every stage of life to maintain muscular, cardiovascular and mental wellness. Unfortunately, a majority of the population sits at a desk, in front of a screen or in a car all day long. Researchers have deemed long-term sitting as the new smoking because it is so detrimental to our physical and mental health. Extended sitting can increase your chances of heart disease, cancer and dementia due to reduced blood flow in the body.

If you must sit for long periods of time, make certain you get up every hour to walk for a few minutes and stretch your body. Incorporating some movement per day will keep your body and mind healthy and happy!

Worked a long day at a desk or in a car? Scroll down and come join me for this week’s Yin Yoga for Sitting All Day and reverse the harmful effects of sitting for long periods of time. Enjoy!
