The Power in a Breeze – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

Last weekend I had so much fun doing Austin-y things with my good friend Lisa, who came in from out of town. We walked around Town Lake (Lady Bird Lake for you newbies), went two-stepping at Joe’s Coffee and attended one of my favorite events, the Austin Kite Festival. Imagine hundreds of kites in all shapes, colors and sizes soaring high in the air creating a magical environment.

Being an air sign, I was naturally mesmerized by all of the kites dancing on the current. It fascinated me to notice how much more stable the kites became ascending from their initial launch to when they reached the perfect elevation and were able to catch a stronger breeze. My observation reminded me that this unseeable element has such incredible power.

Just like a kite, our bodies require the perfect amount of air to be at our peak performance. Unfortunately, more often than not we find ourselves taking shallow breaths or even holding our breath for long periods of time throughout the day. This is the effects of unconscious breathing. Full inhales and complete exhales are imperative to taking in enough oxygen and expelling waste from the body. Therefore, lengthening the inhale and the exhale are a great way to circulate our life force and enhance our energy.
