Isn’t it amazing how two beings can come from the same place and turn out so completely different? I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately as I watch our puppy, Jimmy Kibble, with his brother, Johnny Angel.
Jimmy is our big, white, fluffy boy who is gentle, shy, and happiest when he’s curled up under the bed with a full belly. Johnny, on the other hand, is the life of the party. He’s pure black, small but mighty and wants to be at the center of all of the action. When we take the two of them to the dog park, Johnny is immediately leading the entire pack of pups in a game of chase. While, Jimmy cheers from the sidelines as he watches his brother zoom on by. Personality-wise, they couldn’t be more opposite and yet, they are absolutely in love with each other and are inseparable.
They play, they cuddle and they look out for each other. There’s a beautiful inner knowing that they’re family and no matter their differences they will always stick up for one another.
It’s a great reminder that we too are all part of a family, a community, a state, a country, and ultimately, one big human family. We may look different, think differently, or express ourselves in unique ways, but that doesn’t change the fact that we belong to one another. Therefore, we should protect each other on a human level through kindness and concern for the well-being of our brothers and sisters.
If two dogs can be completely different and still show up for one another when in need, then our inner knowing should lead us in the same direction. Maybe the secret is in remembering that we are all part of the same pack.
So this week, take a moment to question your thoughts and actions and see which direction they take you. Are you leaning towards support and love or division and fear? The choice is yours alone.
