Grounding in Tranquility – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

Scott and I spent an incredible long-weekend in California with our close friends Lynn and Brent.  They invited us for a little escape to their beautiful vacation condo in San Diego located right by the beach.

There’s something about the sound of the ocean waves and the taste of the salty air that immediately relaxes my soul.  I love squishing my toes deep into the sand as the water rushes over my feet.  Standing firmly in this powerful tide reminds me that I can still feel grounded amid the chaotic energies that swirl around me.  The sea brings me a sense of peace when life feels messy and disordered.

Where do you retreat to when you’re trying to keep it together like George Costanza in Seinfeld…”Serenity Now!  Serenity Now!”  Is it a spot by a trickling creek that lulls you back to sanity?  Or the expansive view from a mountain peak that snaps you back into yourself.  Or maybe it’s a cozy corner of your home where you snuggle under a fluffy blanket with a hot drink.

No matter what the location, the effect of your surroundings on your spirit is what counts.  It’s important to identify a sanctuary that allows you to feel safe and grounded when the world feels overwhelmingly unsure.  And it’s even more imperative to discover your haven before you truly need the escape.  

Mindfully flee to your chosen asylum the next time you are feeling inundated with the world’s problems.  And observe how this special place has a calming effect on your nervous system, while brightening your spirit. 

This week’s 17-minute FREE Hatha Yoga Class, Yoga for Grounding in Tranquility, is all about establishing a space to recover a sense of safety when the world feels so unsure. Through grounding postures such as Warrior II, Triangle, Tree Pose and Wide-Footed Down Dog, you will deepen your roots into the earth so you can regain a steady state-of-mind, body and spirit.
