Hitting the Reset Button – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

Scott, Kayla and I spent the past 11-days exploring the incredibly vibrant country of Sri Lanka. I had no idea what we would find on this island nation of 20 million, and was surprisingly blown away by the magnitude of the Sri Lankan culture, flavors and people.

The local culture is rich in every aspect of dance, song, drums, costumes and symbolism.  They use lively colors, movements and sounds to depict their connection with the gods and the universe.  I felt so lucky to witness a traditional 3-day wedding celebration, where the participants were lavished in endless customs and ceremonies and the gorgeous bride looked like an exotic princess in her ornately beaded saree.

Sri Lanken cuisine focuses on intermingling more than 200 of their locally grown organic spices and herbs to create dishes that not only pop with flavor, but are Ayurvedically balanced for health and harmony within the body.  I was so grateful to learn how each spice was grown and used for cooking and health on a spice garden tour at The Island Spice Grove 25 just outside of Kandy.  And we had the opportunity to take a fabulous cooking class at the Marriott Weligama Bay, where we brought these vivacious flavors to life in the creation of several different curries.

But, the most impressive aspect of Sri Lanka is the people.  I immediately recognized the positive spirit in this community when we received endless smiles from strangers and people went out of their way to regularly engage with us in conversation about our background and their culture.  And I found that during our discussions, the people were fully present in the dialogue and it gave me a unique feeling of being totally heard.

It is very hard to imagine that just 10-years ago this nation was at the end of a devastating 25-year long civil war.  We were told that many of the areas we visited were war-torn causing more that 80,000 deaths over the life of this terrible crisis.

So, how can the people of this recently disrupted nation be so incredibly positive about their outlook on life?  The message was consistent from everyone I questioned.  In summary, each individual said they had a choice about the things they contemplated and they chose to focus on the joys of life.  Although many had personal stories about how the war affected them and their families, it was like they hit the reset button and selected a life filled with hope.

This week’s 26-minute FREE Hatha Flow Yoga Class, Yoga for Resetting, is all about hitting the reset button for your body and mind. Through asana focused on balancing postures such as Warrior III that bring awareness to the present moment, you will be able to transform limiting thoughts about your situation and capabilities to make room for limitless abundance.
