Moving Emotions – Yoga with Meditation Mutha

When I was little it used to be a big treat to visit Playland, a local amusement park in New York. A group of friends would get together and one of our parents would be generous enough to drive us on a random summer’s day.

They had all the traditional fun rides like a roller coaster, the Tilt-a-Whirl and the flying swings, but our favorite thing to do was head over to the Gravitron.

You may recognize a version of this ride when you hear the description. You walk into a circular vessel and everyone takes their place against the wall. The doors close behind you sealing you into your tomb for a time. Then the spinning begins and you immediately get sucked to the wall by centripetal force. The skin on your face flaps with the pressure as you count down the three minutes until the torture is over.

As you exit the ride, the whole world swirls around you. Many people spew what they had for lunch in a nearby garbage can and feel the residual effects of the spinning all day.

One of the best parts of the ride was you could stand on a platform while you were waiting and look down on the people trapped inside surrendering to the torture of which they volunteered. I even once witnessed a person throw up while in the middle of spinning and had their vomit hit them in the face the next cycle around. Why we willingly tormented ourselves, I will never know.

The swirliness of this week reminded me of how I felt on this ride. A roller coaster of emotions filled my being and it was exhilarating and exhausting at the same time.

Sometimes when emotions build up in the body, we need to do something physical to release them, so they don’t get stuck in our system. Emotions are meant to be energy in motion and flow through and out the body.
So, I offer you this week’s yoga class, which provides an opportunity to release any energy that no longer serves you.

    YOGA FOR MOVING EMOTIONS

This week’s 13 minute floor yoga class, Yoga for Moving Emotion, is all about processing stuck energy through and out of your body. Through breath work like Lion’s Breath and postures like Pigeon Pose, which focus on the hips, we will allow our emotions to flow out of our system to make room for your inner light to shine. Yoga with Meditation Mutha is for everyBODY. Please join me in this opportunity to release energy that no longer serves you. Enjoy!
